Why do Chinese Restaurants put Pencils in Rice?

I dont know if they do it in your Local Chinese Takeout Place but they put pencils in containers of rice, so you can use it to like write down your order or circle your order from the chinese menu?Why do Chinese Restaurants put Pencils in Rice?

Here they clipped the pencil on the small clipboard along w/ the order chit (for you to circle ur orders)
Do you mean like uncooked rice in a take out container? It's similar to just filling a jar with marbles and placing pens and pencils in it. It helps keep the pens and pencils stay up and the jar does not also tip so easily. At least that's what I've thought.Why do Chinese Restaurants put Pencils in Rice?
Great question. I have never seen this asked before. I have never seen this done. That's a cool idea, though.....
