Who is General Tso on a chinese menu?

At a chinese restaurant you can order General Tso's chicken. Why is it called General Tso's and who was he?Who is General Tso on a chinese menu?

^ Apparently its named after an important General from the Qing Dynasty.. though it is highly unlikely he ever ate such a dish named after himself lol.

In fact General Tso's Chicken might have been invented as Western style Chinese fast food, rather than having any authentic Chinese cuisine origins.

^ Though, there MAY be some influences from Hunan style cooking.

Might not be authentic Chinese food but.. on occasion it is a tasty treat!!
Yahoo actually just had an article about that.

You can read one of them here:

this article talks about how General Tso had nothing to do with the chicken but he was a very famous military man.

Chef Peng (the creator of General Tso's chicken) named it after him.Who is General Tso on a chinese menu?
It was named after Zuo Zongtang

You can read an interesting history of the invention of the dish at

because its not really chicken, its sliced up dog meat dipped in a sweet sauce. True story, my friend is allergic to chicken but for some reason he can eat chinese food chicken, strange huh?
