Steamed rice, chicken and vegetable dish, green tea with no sugar. What's the healthiest choice on a chinese restaurant menu?
As Mothers Day isnt till May, are you too early.
If you are on a healthy diet, you should know what to eat.
But take a look at the kitchen first and you may decide that nothing is healthy.
I have seen Chinese Restaurants kitchens, with cats walking on the preparation tables. Maybe they were the next dish !!
If you want something without meat, try a dish with tofu that is pretty healthy, ask them to prepare your food without MSG and get vegetables and rice and maybe a bowl of soup to start off, drink some tea and water with it.
A lot of the items on the menu at a Chinese restaurant are really quite healthy. I would suggest staying away from the items which are deep fried, but even those have a place in a healthy diet if you are eating an otherwise sensible diet. The detrimental effects on health are not the result of a one time overindulgence or not-so-healthy meal or treat, but of multiple meals or treats repeated frequently over time. While the sodium content of some dishes might leave a bit to be desired, even that you could plan for ahead of time and adjust for in your diet. Stir fried dishes consisting mainly of vegetables and tofu would be good bets, any of the vegetarian offerings, and of course the plain steamed rice. Anything deep fried might be something you might condider avoiding, but again if you planned ahead- it wouldn't be a major nutritional hit. I think it would be more important to enjoy the special time and meal with your family, than to worry about every morsel you put in your mouth. Eating isn't just about what goes into your mouth, the social aspects are very nearly as important. So adjust the diet ahead of time, and afterwards if needed, and enjoy the day and meal with mom.
