Chinese themed lunch/dinner wedding menu?

My fiance is Chinese, I'm not, but I want to have a bit of a Chinese style wedding. He's not being all that helpful with planning, which is fine. I would like to know some Chinese dishes I could have for a late lunch/early dinner for my guests. Easy on the noodles please- too much slurping :)Chinese themed lunch/dinner wedding menu?
So much of Chinese cooking is all about freshness. I don't think you can do this yourself, or a friend who is unfamiliar with Chinese cooking to put it together by hand. Your best bet is to find a good Chinese restaurant that will cater the whole thing for you. Preview the different dishes available, and be sure to ask them to be specific about how they go about their presentation. (White tablecloths on a buffet-style table, served by their staff, or a bunch of cartons dropped off at your doorstep?)
I would suggest dim sum (Chinese dumplings) such as siu mai and har gow for an appetizer or side dish. For the main course, shrimp with black bean sauce is excellent, and beef with broccoli is always popular. I also really like mapo tofu. If you get noodles, chow fun is a good choice, as it is more dry than a lot of lo mein dishes.

If you want to be very authentic, I found this on the internet:

"A nine course dinner represents eternity, so it is especially favored. Like every other aspect, the foods served have symbolic meaning. Peking duck stands for joy and happiness. A whole lobster or fish is a sign of completeness. Shark fin soup conjures up wealth, and sea cucumbers represent harmony for the new marriage. Another traditional food to include in a Chinese wedding banquet is sweet sticky buns shaped like peaches. The sweet flavor is symbolic of wishes for a sweet life for the newlyweds, and the peach stands for fertility."

Personally, I would be happy with an entire meal of dim sum. That gives your guests lots of choices and if you want to have a cocktail-party style reception, people can eat them as finger food.

These are just my ideas though. If your fiance is from China, he may have preferences from his own province. Maybe since he's not being very helpful, you can use this as an opportunity to get to know his parents better. They may have suggestions that are more meaningful to them.Chinese themed lunch/dinner wedding menu?
