Why are Chinese Restaurants so similiar?

In the Western New York area all the Chinese food places all have nearly identical menus with the same specials, same food meals, same colors, same art. I am refering to like the fast food Chinese places, not like the sit down ones. Ive been to at least 7 or 8 and it amazes me that they are nearly indentical in every facet, even the inside.|||Don you basically answered your own question in that the culture is Chinese so all the characteristics will of course be Chinese much like if the same restaurants were Mexican the same sales motif. Chances are the owners survey which restaurant seems to be doing the best business and in an effort to replicate the success adjusts his restaurant to increase his business. End result it is a Chinese Restaurant and their culture thrives on copying an existing product and making and selling it cheaper.|||It could be because thats what they eat all the time..They provide you with the cultural food and dont create anything new.


Its different if you go to a mediterranean restaruant ebcause of what constitutes as mediterranean. That could be greek, italian, syrian, or egyptian. Same with "middle eastern" food or "european food".





But chinese.. thats a country on its own.





Like if you go to a typical American restaraunt, you have the typical american food: burgers, fried chiecken, mashed potatoes, etc.. but American food is more diverse beacyse of its cultural diversity





Also, it could be that they tested which foods bring in the most people and they found that those foods that they serve is what attracts people, or w hat makes chinese food.. chinese.|||Take a trip over the border to Canada, either Niagara Falls or Fort Erie and try a few here, it is the same most everywhere you go, now here in Toronto where I live we have a larger more diverse Chinese community, there fore there are more regional type places and the food is not so sauced and greasy, I go to the more rustic home style places, when I brought my family from outside ot Toronto to a place about 20+ years ago, my mother was appalled to see the food serve the way it was, no sweet and sour crap and they took the dishes away in a big swoop, as they have plastic topped table cloths/coverings and they just remove the condiment and pick it one in one big venture.





I have had Chinese food in but Buffalo and Niagara Falls US, not much different than the run off the mill places here, we do have several chains and smaller buffet style Chinese restaurants, in the border city's you should try them, in Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, St Catherines and Welland. I have been to Florida and other US states and it is pretty much the same all over, now in New York City and San Francisco you will find places more like here in Toronto, we do have those gloppy S%26amp;S places, but they cater to those not willing to venture out and try the more exotic fare.|||What a coincidence, all places selling American fast food offer almost the same menus too, burgers with beef patties or fried chicken, fries, soft drinks, and all Italian pizza restaurants sell the same items also





The bottom line is as fast food restaurants, all identify themselves with a certain stereotype of menu so that before you enter them you somehow know what you want to order, therefore the entire process takes very little time, thus FAST food. At the same time when restaurant owners know what already work, why risk with something unknown. Just follow the popular trends of food and decoration and play it safe.|||because it is easy and americans like their food dumbed down.|||I NEED YOUR CLOTHS, YOUR BOOTS AND YOUR MOTERCYCLE!!!!!
