Forgive them for they do not know what they should eat and should not eat. Theoretically, they can eat anything when they are starved. Perhaps, not now, but historically when there was famine, they had not much choices.
Let's just hope that, they will come to their modern senses and give up the practice soon.
Actually, in China and Thailand they already do eat rats.

Hell they eat birds nest soup don't forget.
because they are considered a food in China, not a pet.
they don't use them in US restaurants that way.
they eat dog meat like we eat beef or lamb the dutch eat horse
I'm pretty sure they eat cat too- pretty gross but they probably see some of our food as gross too. (Vegemite- Australia)
Different cultures have different menus. In the Indian culture cows are sacred and they think Americans are horrible.
It's not everywhere in China, just certain regions. It's mainly the older generation that are still eating dogs there, young people feel the same way we do about it.
I'm not codoning it in any way, but it IS something I accept as a "Cultural Difference"
Cos the eat them! Yes I know, YUCK. I could never imagine myself eating a cat or dog. Eeekkk
i dont think its any worse than people eating cows, pigs, and chickens in america, both are horrible, thats why im a vegetarian
Well the French eat horses and snail... I don't see how they can eat horses when they are pets too.
I think they eat them in China because they have loads of them and its what people can afford to eat. I guess if your family are starving and there is the option of a cheap dog to eat.... they would choose to eat the dog and feed the family... (rather starve and go without myself!)
The Chinese cook anything that moves. It is also a delicacy in some parts of the Philippines, sorry to say!
It's a food source and meat is expensive if not unavailable. Lambs make nice pets too but still get eaten. It's OK you have to eat. During the second world war it was considered a delicacy. You weren't told the stew was dog just after you finished those in the know would start barking. Some couldn't take it and were sick. I am not a vegetarian but there is some things I can't eat as my stomach won't let me. It just heaves on it's own accord.
I'm not thrilled with the idea that they eat dogs but it's not that they are a menu choice that really bothers me. It's how they treat them while they are still alive. The Chinese treat these animals like they are garbage--worse than garbage. I wouldn't treat a roach like they treat their dogs and cats, and probably other farm animals as well.
I don't know about the dogs but they beat the cats to death because they think that it makes them more tender. What kind of vile creature would treat another living thing that way?
Even worse is how they treat them in the fur industry. They kill cats and dogs for fur and most of the cheap fur you see on garments here are dog and cat fur. They don't even bother to kill them first. They skin them while they are alive and then allow them to die a slow, horrible death. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who would do this to anything are the lowest, vilest, most loathsome, unspeakable imitations of human beings that could possibly exist.
You needn't worry about being served dog meat here in USA but, when in China, we were served dog meat - it was called beef on the menu but, my sister and I knew by taste, consistency and location that it wasn't any type of beef we'd ever had. Our husbands had, already eaten some of it and never made a comment (so much for men's taste-buds..). While there, my sister and I (intentionally), ate chocolate-covered crickets and one of the favourite Chinese foods all our family likes to eat are chicken feet in black bean sauce. In some restaurants in cattle-country, here in USA, we've eaten beef testicles and, when my husband went to a banquet, while on a business trip to Middle East, he was served sheep's eyes. I would rather eat rattlesnake or eel than have a sloppy joe - have only had one in my life and never again ... as they remind me of dog food in tomato sauce. Sweetbreads are sheep intestines and I'm only one of a dozen people I know who, really, like them as well as liking steak and kidney pie, tongue, frog legs and escargot (snails). I noticed that someone mentioned Vegemite - gave me a laugh as, since the first time I lived in Australia (40 years ago) my refrigerator has always had a one-qt. jar of Vegemite in it - is my choice of a toast-spread a few mornings a week. (The only nation God gave dietary laws to is Israel.)
Hi There
You are not going to like my answer, but here it is.
Every animal out there in the world is a food source and just because people in the US choose to cloth their dogs and cats doesn't make it any different it is still an animal. China is not the only country that eats dog and cat not to mention rats and bats, Africa, Australia, Filipines as well as other Asian countries. Western civilizations eats cow, lambs, deers, moose and other animals as well as chickens, doves and quails, quails? it's a little brid that you can eat in one bite. Ducks, geese and others and you think China is bad, wake up and face reality when there is nothing to eat and your children are starving you will eat what ever you can. Fear Factor the tv game show, what do they eat on the show, dead squids, raw cow parts, eyes tongues and so on, worms roaches beetles and these are Americans and you think the chinese are gross.
To hear that someone eats and animal that you think is mans best friend is horrible? The horrible thing here is those of you who judge others for their way of life and survival, like the western world is so perfect, yea right.
In America every thing is me me me, as soon as something doesn't meet their standerds it's a crime or it's sick and horrible, what is horrible is when others think their way is the only way and every things else is wrong, well you think about that one for a little while.
In America an animal is just an animal as long as it is not a dog or a cat, human life is still more important too that of a dog and or a cat, even if it is a pet, would let you baby die in a fire and save the cat? would you let the neighbor drown in the river instead of the dog? if you choose the animals over the people then it is you that needs to be eaten and not the chickens because that makes you the animal.
I told you, you would not like my answer, but I think you can understand what I am saying. It is wrong to judge others based on their way of life because it is different from ours, we don't have to like it but we shouldn't frown on them either.
Take care and Keep the Faith....Peace....cya....
I can't see why you should pick on China. What about horses? cute little bunnies? Pigs are very intelligent too!
The thought of it is sick to us. However the dogs that are raised for food are not pets their not sweet cute little puppy's their food just like people raising pigs cow rabbits for food..
