Tonight we are having a Chinese Takeaway, and as I am on a diet, I am keen to have something healthy.
Any ideas on what I can have?
Thanks in advanceHealthy options on Chinese Menu?
First, stay away from anything fried; as for some unknown reason chinese restaurants, with exception to high-end places, are unable to serve fried food without a puddle of oil dripping from the food like fried noodles or egg rolls.
White rice is always a good start, and plain lo mein noodles; rice is cooked in a rice cooker with no extra fats, and noodles are boiled in water in a wok.
Look for veggie dishes, but beware of some of the sauces that come with them. Mosly high in sodium and MSG (MonoSodium Glutimate, also known as "ACCENT" flavor enhancer in the spice aisle of your market), especially the darker sauces that have soy sauce in them. Look for the phrase "No MSG Added" either in the description of the dish, or on the front of the flyer or menu. Also avoid the brown gravy. Yummy as hell, but full of fat.
Chicken is great to order, as is shrimp; so long as it's not tempura (batter coated). Beef is sometimes questionable because of the amounts of soy that it's usually soaked in to add flavor. Not all beef dishes are like that, so read the description carefully. Tofu is great, although make sure it's not deep-fried.
Lastly, ask the counter person/waiter about the menu item in question. Usually they are very helpful about these things, and can steer you toward a choice that best fits your needs. Even better is that they are usually willing to customize any dish based on your requests (i.e. chicken pan-fried w/no oil, baked egg rolls, ect.) Just bear in mind that some requests might take a bit longer, so if you are willing to wait a bit longer, you will usually get what you want.
I hope this helps :)

eat veggies :)
Steamed vegetables.
fried cat
shrimp egg foo yung
Usually on the menu, they have a section for people who are on a diet or on a specified eating habit. It will give suggestions.
wonton soup
cat?
OOH! I should know cause I'm vacationing in China. I would say fried rice with vegetables or noddles in meat sauce. Trust me, the meat isn't fat.
Foo yung is the atkins diet choice... at least ..
dont have chips or rice .. just eat the egg and meat/veg
Enjoy!!
My local chinese food restaurant has a dish that is vegetables and un-fried chicken. I'm drawing a blank on what it's called at the moment, but it's low in calories and pretty healthy.
I would put the chicken and vegetables on top of white rice. If this is not flavorful enough, add a little bit of soy sauce.
Good luck!
i think you'll find chow mein is one of the healthiest options from a chinese (this is taken from the weight watchers manual) also boiled rice instead of fried!
tis hard choice wiv a chinky as it all tastes soooooo good lol
prawns with ginger and spring onions and boiled rice
Yes actually. I've been on a diet for months and I had chinese / vietnamese food twice this week. Hopefully the place you are going to will have a decent menu with some variety.
Any of the spring rolls with the shrimp are good.
My personal favorite would be the Char-grilled chicken Vermicelli. This is a very healthy dish and most places carry it now days.
They also should have a nice variety of mixed vegetables in some of the other dishes to counter anything that might not be as healthy.
Hope this helps!
Panda Express has their stats listed on line, and they have good food.
Look for the health/diet section on the menu. These items usually are steamed with no oil or salt. Skip the rice or only eat a little.
