How do I delete tencent QQ chinese messenging from computer?

A friend recently downloaded the messenger and since I could not find the program properly downloaded as a program and could not uninstall it, I deleted the files from the program file one by one. However, when I right click and the menu shows, there are "????QQ????" and strange symbols that are supposed to translate into chinese characters. I want to get get of those and whatever else has snuck its way into my computer! (I did some research and found out QQ is an adware...what does that mean? What can I do?)
