I am going to Toronto in a couple of weeks and was wondering what the best authentic chinese restaurants are in Toronto? I dont want to see sweet and sour chicken on the menu :)|||I am a former chef and if you want to get "real" chinese food not the crap some places serve, then go to anyone of the 4 Chinatowns in the city, I prefer the one on Spadina and Dundas as it is closest, but have been to all of them, Swatao is a great place, I got to Kings Noodle House on Spadina and Dundas, up a few block the New Ho King, and a small but great little place, on Spadina at the Nassua St stoplight, Kum Jug Yuen, I started going there when I was a chef apprentice back in the 1970's, the GBC chef school was there, now over on Adelaide, but they still have good food.
The typical chinese food at some places is the Americanized version, the real food is in the area were the chinese and other Asian people shop, in the Spadina area you have Cantonese, Szechuan, Hunan, Mongolian, Hong Kong style so there is not shortage of choices.|||Depends on what you like.
King's Noodle on Spadina just north of Dundas is a traditional noodle house.
Bright Pearl is a seafood restaurant, which serves dim sum from carts in the traditional fashion.
I agree about Swatow, also really good.
Kom Jug Yeun is right by my apartment, it has some of the best bbq in the city, and is really fast for take away.
All of the above are in the Spadina Chinatown.|||The Mandarin is the last place you would want to dine at. It's buffet style McDonalds. Head down to Spadina Avenue. That is where the authentic chinese restaurants are. Or check out Scarborough (a suburb), they have a large Chinese community.|||Swatow's on Spadina has the offer authentic Chinese cooking.
If you want good HK quality dim sum, I would check Lai Wah Heen.|||try the MANDARIN
its like a buffet in a jungle! truly amazing!
so google Mandarin in Toronto
